Supporting Tribal and Indigenous Stewardship means amplifying Native voices, perspectives, and practices. We create pathways for Tribal leadership and knowledge to guide the development of sustainable futures through climate adaptation that connects landscapes and peoples.
The Climate Center @ SDSU is supporting initiatives that honor and elevate Tribal and Indigenous knowledges. Working in community across Southern California, the Center supports coastal resilience, cultural and prescribed fire, climate-informed restoration, and land rematriation efforts that center communities' priorities and relationships with the land.

Why it Matters
The suppression of Indigenous landscape stewardship practices since colonization is associated with many of the ecological health, climate resilience, and fire risk issues we face today.
These ongoing challenges highlight the paradigm shift needed in the western US to both manage landscapes and advance Indigenous-led stewardship, particularly in the context of climate change.
To accelerate this change, we are working in community, honoring the traditional relationships between humans and nature to build capacity and climate resilience for all.
